Introduction (15 minutes):
1. Begin the class by discussing the importance of creativity in writing and its role in improving language proficiency, particularly in an ESL context.
2. Introduce the concept of collaborative storytelling in a way that emphasizes language use and expression.
Warm-up Activity – Digital Word Association (15 minutes):
3. Conduct a digital word association game. Share a random word on the digital whiteboard or document and have students type words or phrases that come to mind, focusing on expanding their vocabulary.
Brainstorming Session (20 minutes):
4. Facilitate a digital brainstorming session using the shared document. Encourage students to contribute ideas for their collaborative stories in English.
5. Emphasize the use of descriptive language and varied vocabulary during the brainstorming process.
Main Activity – Collaborative Storytelling (60 minutes):
Divide the class into small breakout rooms (3-4 students per group).
Assign each group a digital space (Google Doc, shared Word document, or collaborative writing platform) for their story.
Explain the rules: Each group will take turns writing a section of the story in English. Set a timer for each writing round (e.g., 10 minutes).
After the initial rounds, encourage groups to review and revise their stories collaboratively with a focus on language accuracy and expression.
Ask each group to create a visual representation of their story using digital tools, reinforcing vocabulary and language usage.
Presentation and Feedback (30 minutes):
- Bring the class back together for presentations. Each group can share their digital document and use the video conferencing platform for creative presentations in English.
Encourage feedback from classmates after each presentation, emphasizing language improvement and effective expression.
Reflection and Discussion (15 minutes):
- Conduct a class discussion about the collaborative storytelling experience with a focus on language development. Discuss challenges, successes, and language-specific lessons learned in the online environment.
Closing Activity – Digital Peer Feedback and Awards (10 minutes):
- Have each group share their digital document with another group for peer review. Encourage constructive feedback focusing on language proficiency through comments or discussion.
