Wh- questionsĀ are questions that use words starting with the letters āwh,ā like āwho,ā āwhen,ā and āwhat.ā āHowā is also often included in this list.
These questions help you get more information about people, places, and things. They donāt just give you ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answers. Letās look at the most important ones in the following video.

1. Who? ā Ask about people.
- Use “Who” when you want to ask about a person or people.
- Example Questions:
- “Who is your best friend?”
- “Who is your favorite singer?”
- “Who do you live with?”
- Example Answer:
“My best friend is Maria.”
“My favorite singer is Ed Sheeran.”
“I live with my parents and my sister.”
2. What? ā Ask about things or information.
- Use “What” to ask about things, actions, or general information.
- Example Questions:
- “What is your favorite food?”
- “What do you do in your free time?”
- “Whatās the weather like?”
- Example Answer:
“My favorite food is pizza.”
“I play video games in my free time.”
“The weather is sunny at the moment.”
3. Where? ā Ask about places.
- Use “Where” to ask about a place or location.
- Example Questions:
- “Where do you live?”
- “Where is your school?”
- “Where are you going?”
- Example Answer:
“I live in Quito.”
“My school is near the park.”
“I’m going to play in the park.”
4. When? ā Ask about time.
- Use “When” to ask about time, dates, or when something happens.
- Example Questions:
- “When is your birthday?”
- “When do you wake up?”
- “When is the party?”
- Example Answer:
“My birthday is on December 15th.”
“I wake up at 7 AM.”
“The party is on Saturday.”
5. Why? ā Ask for reasons or explanations.
- Use “Why” to ask for the reason behind something or an explanation.
- Example Questions:
- “Why do you like soccer?”
- “Why is the bus late?”
- “Why are you happy?”
- Example Answer:
“I like soccer because itās exciting.”
“The bus is late because there is a lot of traffic.”
“I’m happy because I got an A on my English test.”
6. Which? ā Ask to choose or pick something.
- Use “Which” when you want to choose between options or pick a specific thing.
- Example Questions:
- “Which color do you like?”
- “Which movie do you want to watch?”
- “Which book is your favorite?”
- Example Answer:
“I like blue.”
“I want to watch a comedy movie.”
“My favourite book is ‘The Little Prince’.”
7. Whose? ā Ask about possession (who something belongs to).
- Use “Whose” to ask about who something belongs to.
- Example Questions:
- “Whose book is this?”
- “Whose shoes are these?”
- “Whose turn is it?”
- Example Answer:
“Itās my book.”
“Those shoes are Tomās.”
“Itās my turn to play.”
8. How? ā Ask about the way something is done or a feeling.
- Use “How” to ask about the manner in which something is done, or to ask about a personās feelings.
- Example Questions:
- “How are you?”
- “How do you make a sandwich?”
- “How does this game work?”
- Example Answer:
“Iām fine, thank you!”
“You make a sandwich with bread, cheese, and ham.”
“You answer questions to progress in the game.”
