Daily Routine

HeyGen Introduction Video

A daily routine is a list of things we do every day at certain times. It helps us stay organized and know what to expect throughout the day. Talking about your daily routine helps others understand what you do and when you do it!

This next video explains some common routines and gives their Spanish translations.

Common Daily Activities

Here are some common things people do every day:

  • Wake up – The first thing we do when we get out of bed.
    Example: ā€œI wake up at 7:00 AM.ā€
  • Get dressed – Put on your clothes for the day.
Example: ā€œI get dressed after I wake up.ā€
  • Have breakfast – Eat the first meal of the day.
    Example: ā€œI have breakfast at 8:00 AM.ā€
  • Go to school – Go to school to learn!
Example: ā€œI go to school at 8:30 AM.ā€
  • Study – Do homework or study for school.
Example: ā€œI study in the afternoon.ā€
  • Play sports – Do physical activities like soccer or basketball.
Example: ā€œI play soccer on Wednesday afternoons.ā€
  • Have lunch – Eat in the middle of the day.
    Example: ā€œI have lunch at 1:00 PM.ā€
  • Go home – Return home after school or work.
    Example: ā€œI go home at 4:00 PM.ā€
  • Have dinner – Eat the last meal of the day.
    Example: ā€œI have dinner at 7:00 PM.ā€
  • Sleep – Rest at night.
    Example: ā€œI sleep at 10:00 PM.ā€

Expressing Your Daily Routine in English

You can use these common time expressions to talk about your daily routine:

  • In the morning – The time from 6 AM to 12 PM.
Example: ā€œI go to school in the morning.ā€
  • In the afternoon – The time from 12 PM to 6 PM.
Example: ā€œI do my homework in the afternoon.ā€
  • In the evening – The time from 6 PM to bedtime.
Example: ā€œI watch TV in the evening.ā€
  • At night – The time when you’re going to sleep.
Example: ā€œI go to bed at night.ā€

You can also talk about what happens before and after other activities. Use these to make your sentences fun:

  • Before – Means you do something first.
Example: ā€œI have breakfast before I go to school.ā€
  • After – Means you do something next.
Example: ā€œI do my homework after school.ā€
  • Then – Tells you the next step in your routine.
Example: ā€œI go to the park, then I have lunch.ā€
