Prepositions of place are words that tell us where something is. They help us describe locations, give directions, and talk about our rooms, school, or city.

IN ā Inside Something š¦
- Use “IN” when something is inside a container or space.
- Examples:
- āThe book is IN the box.ā
- āThe cat is IN the house.ā
- āMy keys are IN my bag.ā
ON ā On the Surface of Something š„ļø
- Use “ON” when something is on top of a surface or object.
- Examples:
- āThe pencil is ON the desk.ā
- āThe plate is ON the table.ā
- āI put my shoes ON the chair.ā
BEHIND ā At the Back of Something šŖ
- Use “BEHIND” when something is at the back of another object or person.
- Examples:
- āThe chair is BEHIND the desk.ā
- āThe dog is BEHIND the door.ā
- āThe car is parked BEHIND the house.ā
UNDER ā Below Something ā¬ļø
- Use “UNDER” when something is below or beneath something else.
- Examples:
- āThe shoes are UNDER the bed.ā
- āThe cat is hiding UNDER the table.ā
- āThe book is UNDER the chair.ā
IN FRONT OF ā Facing Something šāāļø
- Use “IN FRONT OF” when something is ahead of or facing another thing.
- Examples:
- āThe car is IN FRONT OF the house.ā
- āThe teacher is IN FRONT OF the classroom.ā
- āThe restaurant is IN FRONT OF the cinema.ā
NEXT TO (BY) ā Beside Something šÆāāļø
- Use “NEXT TO” or “BY” when something is beside or close to another thing.
- Examples:
- āThe school is NEXT TO the park.ā
- āThe library is BY the supermarket.ā
- āThe chair is NEXT TO the desk.ā
ABOVE ā Higher Than Something ā¬ļø
- Use “ABOVE” when something is higher than something else.
- Examples:
- āThe picture is ABOVE the sofa.ā
- āThere is a bird ABOVE the tree.ā
- āThe light is ABOVE the door.ā
BELOW ā Lower Than Something ā¬ļø
- Use “BELOW” when something is lower than something else.
- Examples:
- āThe drawer is BELOW the table.ā
- āThe shoes are BELOW the shelf.ā
- āThe basement is BELOW the house.ā
BETWEEN ā In the Middle of Two Things āļø
- Use “BETWEEN” when something is in the middle of two other things.
- Examples:
- āThe park is BETWEEN the school and the library.ā
- āThe cat is sitting BETWEEN the two chairs.ā
- āMy house is BETWEEN the supermarket and the cinema.ā
TO THE LEFT ā On the Left Side of Something ⬠ļø
- Use “TO THE LEFT” to show something is on the left side of something.
- Examples:
- āThe post office is TO THE LEFT of the school.ā
- āThe window is TO THE LEFT of the door.ā
- āThe book is TO THE LEFT of the laptop.ā
TO THE RIGHT ā On the Right Side of Something ā”ļø
- Use “TO THE RIGHT” to show something is on the right side of something.
- Examples:
- āThe bank is TO THE RIGHT of the supermarket.ā
- āThe picture is TO THE RIGHT of the bed.ā
- āMy friend is sitting TO THE RIGHT of me.ā
